Continent-spanning concerts celebrate the seven-volume The Art Of Perelman-Shipp, a high-water mark for the duo format and for free improvisation.

This was in the mid 90’s and the NY jazz scene was something I mostly read about in the papers. Though Henry spoke with articulate passion about Shipp’s energy, drive and heightened musicianship, it was not until I attended a concert that I fully understood his power, fury and otherworldly vision. The new album "Corpo" by the Ivo Perelman – Matthew Shipp Duo is out now on Leo Records! In 14 tracks of moderate length, the disc offers evidence of Perelman’s new "intervallic system," as well as a purified distillation of an ever-evolving musical partnership that has been compared to Brubeck/Desmond and Coltrane/Tyner.
